what an influence....

i couldn't believe i ran across this article from 1988 ..................................... this was one of the most influential articles i ever read ................................ so what i wanted my home to be ...................... so wishing i had her desire, drive, and determination .............................. i had the desire .................not the funds or confidence to do the things this gal did .................... Bobbie Bollenbach ....................... look how timesless this has been all these years .......... the vision ........................ this young woman, ripped up carpet ........ screwed rough split logs onto walls ....... added old doors & shutters ........ the list was neverending .................................... and she collected old linens and floss and reproduced samplers with the same perfection ........................ just looking back today at something that so influenced my style almost twenty five yrs. ago ........................... this one thing &( another dear lady i will share at another time) were my mentors into the style i so love today ...............................................
............................................. i am blessed !

I remember looking at magazines back then also, rooms just like this one, dreaming of having that very same look in my house one day. Thanks for the memories, they are timeless. Vicky

Thanks for sharing. This style truly is timeless, look how long the real thing has lasted! I'm glad some of the magazines are finally getting back to it after all this time. Enjoy your day, Dawn

Boy, oh, boy! Do I love this ot what! I have never seen this(?), I don't think, but it feels like going home. Down a long winding trail to a favorite place to be. I'd love to have this room. 25 years ago, I would have loved to have this room! Somethings don't change! I would love to live here! Thanks for posting this!

I just stumbled onto your blog - and will return often. I too was greatly influenced and encouraged by Bobbie's article so many years ago!!! That magazine remains in my favorites stack and the pictures are wonderfully etched in my memory!! I was amazed at her energy - to do all that remaking of her house while her husband was at work. I sure would love to know what she's up to now!

Sitting here tonight looking through a stack of old magazines that I just couldn't part with and came across this very article, "Traveler in Time", in Country Home magazine. I googled her name to see what had happened to Bobbie Bollenback. Does anyone know? She inspired so many with her gutsy redo--she was so far ahead of her time. Would love to know what happened to her. Thanks for sharing the memory! Debbie Grogg Creek Homestead

I have this magazine. The article was featured in Country Living. I have kept every issue since the 1980 when I started collecting them as a newly-wed. It fueled my passion and influenced my style for the rest of my life. I was delighted to see the article posted here.

This was always one of my very favorites also. Just ran across my old Cpuntry Home magazine with this article in it and had to google her name also. I found your blog but nothing about her today. Wonder if she has changed her style in these 25+ years?
