May's Grocery.......

the place of childhood memories......................................this is Granny's store......................the place where i pretended to be a grocery store mom....(just like her)................on rare occasions, i could play with the cash register..(not many)..................i carried empty pop bottles to the garage for a nickel........loved dipping my hand into the cold water of the pop cooler....................played with the Doan's pill bottles...(my fav).............picked books from the library truck that came every other week.................ate lunch on the ice cream table in the back.....(learned to put potato chips in my tomato soup, ummm).....................................had my first kiss in jr. high..................................and sat on the colonial bread box outside, waiting for daddy to pick me up after work.....(i could hear the whistle blow from the stone mill, and knew it would be soon!).................................................... ..........................................i can smell the old wood floor.......hear the slam of the old screen door

i can hear the crank on the old gas pump, as Granny gave it a turn, and hear the pump running till it probably hit a total of $2.00..........................I can hear Rex the dog barking in the back yard...(he was chained up & i was never allowed to go near..i know now, he was probably the watch dog more than a pet)...................... oh my how the memories do flood, once i go back there..................i will tell more Granny stories later, but for now..................................................do know that i am blessed!

I just loved those old stores back then, I could just hear a screen door shut when I was reading your post. And the old pepsi cola sign brings back memories of an old coca cola sign my father use to pull my sister and I in the snow on. Thanks for sharing your memories and bringing mine back to life. Vicky

Wonderful memories! Brought back to mind life in my little hometown and the general store there. My favorite memories are reaching into the soda cooler, the comic book stand (Archie was a fave!), blocks of neopolitan ice cream in a waffle cone, looking through the glittery Christmas cards, and of course, the slam of the screen door as we entered and left. Ooooh, how I love those memories..... Thanks for sharing your story and for bringing back a flood of good thoughts....
Have a happy day!

Love the detail in the recollections. It brings it to life for me. I remember penny candy, 5 cent Cokes, no paper or plastic, but I especially remember the old screen door. There are few better sounds these days than the slam of a good screen door. I so love them that we enclosed our patio using screen door. The sad part is not being able to open or close them. They are a wall. I love them but would certainly love to hear one once in a while......

Hi friend,
OH I can just see all of this! What wonderful
memories and is there anything better than an old country store...I think not...Cokes in the little bottles, remember the round Purple sour bubblegums? Those were the days....A simpler
life indeed and so much slower....Love this post my friend and love you...Hope you can make it Friday...
